Naguib Mahfouz (1911-2006), the Egyptian novelist and Nobel Prize winner for Literature in 1988, has left a lasting impact on literary scholarship and critical inquiry in the Arab world and beyond. His literary and narrative achievements continue to stimulate academic interest and research, despite the extensive literature dedicated to his works. Mahfouz's texts offer an inexhaustible potential for interpretation, reflecting his experimental inclination towards testing various narrative forms and their impact on the meaning of existence, history, and the roles of individuals and groups within it. Mahfouz's diverse and multifaceted narrative oeuvre delves into profound philosophical and metaphysical inquiries, as well as the complex relationships between humans, the universe, and the divine. His narratives engage with existential questions, exploring the nature of human existence and the search for meaning in a complex and often chaotic world.
